Speech-Language Evaluations

A speech-language evaluation involves the completion of standardized and often non-standardized measures to determine the strengths and weaknesses comprising a child’s individual auditory, verbal, and social language profile. A hearing screening is part of this process. The findings are interpreted in consideration of the various language demands children encounter both in and out of the classroom setting. In addition, the speech-language pathologist reviews information provided by parental, medical, educational, and allied health sources when interpreting the results. This allows for a speech-language evaluation that contributes to the understanding of a child’s overall learning profile.

Speech-language evaluations are usually completed in one session. Following the completion of the testing, a reporting conference is scheduled. At that time, the findings and recommendations from a comprehensive written report are fully reviewed. Recommendations from that report provide a child’s family and educators with specific information regarding ways to help develop his or her areas of speech and/or language weakness.

Occupational Therapy Evaluations

An occupational therapy evaluation involves the completion of standardized assessments, clinical observations, and often non-standardized measures to determine the strengths and weaknesses impacting a child’s performance at school, home, and play. Upon referral for an OT evaluation, a child’s history, parent concerns, and prior evaluations are all reviewed to identify specific areas of assessment. Areas of assessment can include fine motor, gross motor, visual perceptual, visual-motor integration, handwriting, self-care, and sensory processing skill. The resulting data is interpreted in consideration of how they impact functional performance of the child.

Occupational Therapy evaluations are usually completed in one session. Once the assessment measures are scored and analyzed, a reporting conference is scheduled. At that time, parents are provided with a comprehensive report that includes assessment results, interpretation of scores, and recommendations.

Evaluation Fees and Scheduling

We are so glad you are considering a psychoeducational, speech-language, or occupational therapy evaluation with the Diagnostic Center. Our fees are as follows:

  • Psychoeducational Evaluation Fee: $2,100
  • Speech-Language Evaluation Fee: $950
  • Occupational Therapy Evaluation Fee: $900
In some circumstances, an in-depth social-emotional assessment will be indicated or requested in addition to the comprehensive psychoeducational evaluation. If so, additional fees may be incurred. This will be discussed with parents prior to the provision of additional services.

Phone calls received from clients that last longer than 20 minutes will be charged at the consultation fee of $150 per hour unless otherwise indicated.

Please note: A non-refundable deposit of $400 is due 24 hours after appointments are scheduled (this is applied towards the evaluation fee), with the remainder of the fee due by the first day of testing. Please make checks payable to Currey Ingram Diagnostic Center.

While we do not accept payment from insurance companies at this time, we are able to accept credit cards including Visa, MasterCard, and American Express. Documentation of services can be provided for parents to file with their insurance company.

Due to insurance regulations in the evaluation process, it is important for us to know if you plan to file with your insurance company. To avoid difficulties in filing with your insurance company, we recommend that you ask them the following questions:

-Does insurance apply to a psychoeducational and/or speech-language evaluation?
-Does that coverage depend on a DSM-V or other diagnostic code?
-How much will they cover for an out-of-network provider?

We require a notice of one week to cancel scheduled evaluations and 48 hours to cancel scheduled Parent Interview or Reporting Conference, with the exception of emergencies. Scheduling is always critical in the Diagnostic Center; therefore, no-shows or appointments canceled in less than the stated time will be charged at the hourly consultation fee for the time scheduled. Please call the Diagnostic Center at (615) 507-3171 to cancel appointments.

A late charge of 1.5% per month will be assessed for any delinquent payments not paid by the due date.
