College Counseling

Currey Ingram Academy offers each student a structured program of individualized college counseling. Students are encouraged to do their best work in appropriately challenging classes; to understand their interests, skills, personality, strengths and challenges; to prepare for and take college entrance exams; and to fully participate in the college identification, research, application and selection process. The college counselor acts as a guide during this exciting and rewarding time.

  • Services for Students

    All Upper School students
    - are invited to meet with the college representatives visiting our campus,
    - are welcome to use the college counseling resource room,
    - are encouraged to visit college fairs in the Nashville area,
    - are encouraged to ask questions of the college counselor at any time, and
    - receive a program of individualized attention and support throughout the college counseling process.

All sophomores and juniors take the PSAT exam, and students may take the ACT and/or SAT exam during their junior and/or senior years.

All juniors attend seven college counseling workshops planned by the Currey Ingram College Counseling Department. Each workshop is held during the school day. Students also participate in individual and family meetings with the college counselor. Each junior receives a college counseling notebook with detailed information on the college search and application process.

Seniors attend four college counseling group workshops and continue to meet individually with the college counselor.
  • Services for Parents

All Upper School parents are encouraged to attend a series of college counseling sessions offered each year. Each session is devoted to a particular topic of interest. These sessions will often include a college representative guest speaker. Check the College Counseling calendar online for this year's schedule.

At least two individual family sessions are scheduled with the college counselor during each student’s junior year. Parents are encouraged to contact the counselor with questions and concerns at any time.
  • Reminder: Psychoeducational Evaluation

Every Upper School student at CIA needs to have a current psychoeducational evaluation on file with the college counseling office. These evaluations are used in applying for any necessary college entrance testing accommodations, and form the basis for accommodations in college. It is critical that these evaluations are kept current. Click here for the ACT's guidelines for acceptable documentation.
