This camp is intended to extend the school year for the student in rising Grades 4 - 8 who would benefit from targeted intervention in the skills that contribute to written expression development.
This camp is intended to extend the school year for the student in rising Grades 4 - 8 who would benefit from targeted intervention in the skills that contribute to written expression development. Instruction will focus on key areas that support the writing process, including grammar, mechanics and sentence structure; handwriting and keyboarding fluency; and genre-specific strategy instruction. Woven throughout the camp experience will be intentional building of metacognitive strategies, such as self-monitoring, positive self-talk and goal setting. In addition, executive functioning skills necessary for writing tasks will be embedded, including skills such as goal-directed persistence, sustained attention and organization.

Prerequisites:
  • Must be able to use spelling strategies to spell multisyllabic words that are legible
  • Must be able to independently write several simple sentences
