Celebrating John Rivers Ingram Day

“You’re in a place where its mission is to help you explore what is possible because it’s all about possibilities.” That was the message Currey Ingram students heard from John Ingram as part of our annual John Rivers Ingram Day.

Every fall, students, faculty and staff gather to celebrate the philanthropic leadership of John and Stephanie Ingram. Special guests John Ingram and Courtney Blaise from Second Harvest Food Bank were on hand for this year for the all-school assembly.

At this year’s event, three students shared how Currey Ingram Academy is “giving back” by supporting local and global organizations. Lower school student John Parker Link talked about the Lower School’s Second Harvest Food Bank endeavor. In fact, the Lower School won the coveted trophy for collecting the most cans. Middle School student Lauren Agee spoke about the various fundraisers that students have held to raise money to build a school in Kenya. And Upper School student Matt Gardner shared how Upper School students spend their Saturdays building a home for Nashville’s Habitat for Humanity.
A highlight of the morning was Second Harvest Food Bank’s Courtney Blaise’s announcement of the winners for collecting the most cans for the fall food drive. This year, Currey Ingram donated 4,304 canned and boxed food items to Second Harvest. With this donation, over 4,800 families will be fed throughout the Middle Tennessee area.

The winning groups by Division will be treated to a pizza party or special treat as determined by the Division Heads. Those groups were: Ms. Long’s homeroom (Lower School), Ms. Dahl’s advisory (Middle School), and the Green House (Upper School).
The Middle School collected the most cans with 2,109 (16 cans per student), but the Lower School was the winning building with 1,760 an average of 22 cans per student. The winning Division will have a dress code pass on a day designated by the Division Head. They also received the John Rivers Ingram “Spirit of Giving” Award to display in their building for the next year.

The event ended with Head of School Dr. Jeff Mitchell presenting Mr. Ingram with an engraved box filled with thank you letters from students and faculty.
