  • Who We Serve

At Currey Ingram Academy, we understand that students learn differently so we must teach differently. Our teachers use evidence-based instructional approaches and present material through an individualized, structured and multisensory approach (visual, auditory, and kinesthetic) to best meet the instructional and learning needs of our students. Currey Ingram Academy accepts students compatible with the mission of the school; however, within the residential program, students will be accepted using additional criteria that aligns with a 24/7 environment.

Our Upper School program serves students in 9th through 12th grades with average to superior intelligence with learning differences, particularly in reading (dyslexia), writing (dysgraphia), math (dyscalculia), memory (long-term and working), processing speed, ADHD, executive functioning challenges or other learning differences that prevent academically capable students from achieving success in a traditional educational setting.

    About Birmingham

Birmingham is the largest city in the U.S. state of Alabama and the seat of Jefferson County. Located in the north central region of the state, Birmingham is the major commercial, cultural, and educational center of Alabama. Birmingham is also home to a number of colleges and universities, including the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Samford University, and Birmingham-Southern College.

Birmingham was founded in 1871 by a group of railroad executives who saw the potential of the city's location at the intersection of several major railroad lines. The city quickly grew into a major industrial center, and by the early 20th century, Birmingham was the largest steel producer in the world. Birmingham's steel industry played a major role in the city's economic growth, and the city became known as the "Magic City" for its rapid development.
