Currey Ingram Academy’s Reading & Writing Intensive Program is a four-week summer program designed to support students who struggle with reading and writing by extending meaningful instruction beyond the school year.

This year, the Reading Intensive and Writing Intensive programs are combined, allowing student data to guide each camper’s instructional focus. This targeted approach helps ensure students receive support in the areas where they need it most, whether they are building foundational literacy skills, strengthening written expression, or continuing to close skill gaps.

The program is ideal for struggling readers and writers, including students with dyslexia or dysgraphia, as well as younger learners who would benefit from additional practice with early reading and writing skills. Instruction is delivered in small groups by educators who understand how to support students with learning differences.

Throughout the program, students work on key literacy skills, including phonological awareness, phonics, sight-word knowledge, comprehension, vocabulary, and written expression. With explicit instruction, guided practice, and a supportive learning environment, students are given the opportunity to build skills, grow in confidence, and experience success as readers and writers.

For many families, summer support can be an important step in helping a child maintain progress and prepare for the school year ahead. At Currey Ingram, our approach is rooted in the belief that students learn best when instruction is intentional, evidence-based, and tailored to the way they learn.
