A psychoeducational evaluation is an in-depth process that utilizes standardized tests and measurements to develop a comprehensive profile of a child’s learning, behavioral, and social-emotional functioning.
This profile aids in the identification of strengths and needs across many areas of functioning. The information gathered from this process guides the development of interventions and strategies that will enhance a child’s quality of life, both at school and at home.

Assessment and Evaluation

A psychoeducational evaluation is a one-on-one, individualized assessment. At the Diagnostic Center, a full comprehensive psychoeducational evaluation includes:

1. A thorough history, consisting of a parent interview, completion of parent questionnaires and review of previous psychological and educational testing, if available;

2. An individual evaluation in the areas of intelligence, academics, emotional and behavioral functioning, memory, perceptual and visual-motor skills, executive functioning, learning style, and/or attention and concentration that usually takes two mornings to complete;

3. An observation of the student (when appropriate).

After all of the data has been gathered and analyzed, results and recommendations are shared via a reporting conference, and families are provided with a copy of the written report that includes results and recommendations.

An Overview of the Evaluation Process

The first step in the evaluation process is to set up appointments for the Parent Interview and Evaluation and pay the non-refundable deposit of $400 (this is applied toward the evaluation fee). Once these appointments have been scheduled and the deposit is received, you will receive an information packet.

List of 5 items.

  • Two Weeks Prior to Evaluation Day

    • Please complete and return the forms enclosed in the information packet. These include the Social History Form regarding your child's social, medical, educational, and family history and "Release of Information" and "Consent to Evaluate" forms.
    • If available, please send previous testing and/or assessments. Work samples can also be helpful in the evaluation process.
    • Be sure that your child has had both a recent hearing and vision screening.
  • One Week Prior to Evaluation Day

    • The Diagnostic Center must receive all forms, or the evaluation may be canceled or rescheduled.
  • Parent Interview

Before the first evaluation day, an initial interview is scheduled with parents to speak with a psychologist who will be completing their child's testing for an initial interview. At this meeting, the psychologist will talk with parents about their reasons for pursuing testing and will gather additional history and information about the child. This is also an opportunity for parents to ask any questions about the evaluation process and to address any related concerns.
  • Evaluation Day

    • The remainder of the fee is due before testing begins on the first day of the evaluation.
    • Testing is typically conducted over two sessions on separate days. Testing times will be established when you set up your child's appointment.
    • If your child takes medication on a regular school day please do not take a break for the evaluation - medication should be taken in the way that your child takes it on a typical school day.
    • If they wear glasses, make sure that they have them with them.
    • Please dress them as though it is a regular school day.
    • We usually offer a break and a snack to children during evaluation sessions. If your child would prefer a specific snack, we ask that you bring that with you when you come to drop them off. You may stay in the Center while your child is testing if you choose but are not required to do so.
  • After Evaluation Day

    • After all of the data has been gathered and analyzed, results and recommendations are shared via a reporting conference where families are provided with a comprehensive written report. Your psychologist will work with you to schedule this conference. This usually occurs within six to eight weeks of testing. If you feel it would be beneficial, please feel free to invite other individuals involved with your child to this meeting.
    • Any changes needed are made to the written report, and it is sent to the parents.
    • Understanding that questions arise after the evaluation and reporting conference, the Center provides ongoing communication as needed; however, additional reporting conferences will incur charges as consultation services.

Fees for Testing

We are so glad you are considering a psychoeducational, speech-language, or occupational therapy evaluation with the Diagnostic Center. Our fees are as follows:
  • Psychoeducational Evaluation Fee: $2,300
  • Speech-Language Evaluation Fee: $1,000
  • Occupational Therapy Evaluation Fee: $950
In some circumstances, an in-depth social-emotional assessment will be indicated or requested in addition to the comprehensive psychoeducational evaluation. If so, additional fees may be incurred. This will be discussed with parents prior to the provision of additional services.

Phone calls received from clients that last longer than 20 minutes will be charged at the consultation fee of $150 per hour unless otherwise indicated.

Please note: A non-refundable deposit of $400 is due 24 hours after appointments are scheduled (this is applied towards the evaluation fee), with the remainder of the fee due by the first day of testing. Please make checks payable to Currey Ingram Diagnostic Center.

While we do not accept payment from insurance companies at this time, we are able to accept credit cards including Visa, MasterCard, and American Express. Documentation of services can be provided for parents to file with their insurance company.

Due to insurance regulations in the evaluation process, it is important for us to know if you plan to file with your insurance company. To avoid difficulties in filing with your insurance company, we recommend that you ask them the following questions:

-Does insurance apply to a psychoeducational and/or speech-language evaluation?
-Does that coverage depend on a DSM-V or other diagnostic code?
-How much will they cover for an out-of-network provider?

We require a notice of one week to cancel scheduled evaluations and 48 hours to cancel scheduled Parent Interview or Reporting Conference, with the exception of emergencies. Scheduling is always critical in the Diagnostic Center; therefore, no-shows or appointments canceled in less than the stated time will be charged at the hourly consultation fee for the time scheduled. Please call the Diagnostic Center at (615) 507-3171 to cancel appointments.

A late charge of 1.5% per month will be assessed for any delinquent payments not paid by the due date.
