Mustang Athletics is an educational-based athletics program that provides a competitive and safe environment. Offering both individual and team sports to students in grades K-12, all students are encouraged to participate.

The Mustang Basketball season wrapped up on Sunday, as the 5th Grade Boys and 6th Grade Girls teams competed in the West Nashville Sports League March Madness Tournament. While these were the last two teams competing in the 2016-2017 season, it was a very successful year for all of the Mustang Basketball teams. In grades 5-12, Mustang Basketball had participants on 6 teams, five teams competing at the Middle School level, and one at the Varsity level.
The Mustang Gold team competed in the Middle School Division of the Middle Tennessee Athletic Conference and had a great season of development. With a mix of veterans and newcomers, Coach Jana Baggett worked to teach the fundamentals of defense and offense that will serve each player well as they progress to the next stage of their playing career.
Coach Ben Leathers coached the Middle School Green Team as it saw tremendous growth throughout the season as well. Each player saw their skill level and confidence raise with each practice and game.
The Middle School 5th Grade Team was led by Coach Kyle Cupples and Coach Joel Shrum. They finished their season with a 2nd place finish in the WNSL March Madness Tournament. This group showed a lot of grit and determination throughout the season, and they shined during the tournament, going 4-1, with their only loss coming in the championship game. With a young players on each of the three basketball teams, Middle School Basketball has laid a great foundation for future teams!
The Middle School Girls team, coached by Coach Ellie Stravers and Coach Rose Champagne, also competed in the WNSL this year and had a great run in the March Madness Tournament. Having the largest participation in recent years, they were divided onto two teams for the regular season. The team had a great season and was one of the best teams in their age group during both the regular season and tournament.
This year, the Varsity Boys team, coached by Reid McFadden, showed they were ready to take the next step as they turned in the best season in Mustang Basketball history. The Mustangs set many records throughout the year. They started the year with a great winning streak, and continued throughout the year picking up key victories. During the season, senior, Jake Grader became the first player in Mustang Basketball to join the 1,000 point club. He finished his Mustang Basketball career with 1,208 points and 715 rebounds. With a strong core of Juniors who will return for the 17-18 season, the Mustangs are looking to again set new records and continue building Mustang Basketball.
